Shane Stanger: Accused of 200 Sex-Related Crimes After Victim Discovers Her Own Rape Videos

-

The victim had no recollection of the sexual assaults and thinks she was drugged and assaulted while asleep.

Shane Stanger, 46, is accused of 200+ counts of sex-related crimes including second-degree sexual assault of an unconscious victim in Racine County.

The Racine County Sheriff’s Office said a female victim discovered several videos on a laptop of herself being sexually assaulted by an acquaintance, later identified as Shane M. Stanger (M/W 02/28/1975). The Victim said she did not remember the sexual assaults and believes she was drugged.

Wisconsin Right Now has learned that the victim made a copy of the videos she found and turned them over to Racine County authorities on Feb 28, 2021. The victim told investigators that the videos were recorded in 2014 and the assaults happened in the Village of Waterford in Racine County.

The victim had no recollection of the sexual assaults and thinks she was drugged and assaulted while asleep, prosecutors say. She said she had not taken any medications that would have prevented her from waking up.

The Racine County Sheriff’s Office’s Criminal Investigations Bureau conducted a forensic examination of Stanger’s laptop computer and cellphone.

Shane Stanger, was identified and arrested. He is being held in the Racine County Jail on a half-million-dollar bond. CCAP records show Stanger’s last known address is in Davenport, Iowa.

Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling said, “This sick pervert needs to be held accountable for what he’s been doing,” and “I fully expect this 200+ counts is just the tip of the iceberg.”

“If it wasn’t for the courage of individuals like that to come forward and bring that personal information forward, we would not have this creep in custody today,” said Sheriff Schmaling.

Sheriff Schmaling said Shane Stanger traveled between Iowa and Wisconsin and that the vast of majority of the victims knew him. Victims ranged in age from 10 to 40 years old.

Shane Stanger Recommended Charges

The Racine County Sheriff’s Office has recommended Shane Stanger be charged with:

· 2nd Degree Sexual Assault of an Unconscious Victim (87 Counts)

· Possession of Child Pornography (2 counts)
· Representations Depicting Nudity, Person Under 18 (3 Counts)
· Representations Depicting Nudity (50 Counts)
· Invasion of Privacy (49 Counts)

Schmaling said more charges are expected from out-of-state. “We’re looking at 200 counts, there are children involved here” said Schmaling. “We have talked about a lot of things we’re finding here. If it wasn’t for the courage of individuals like that, that come forward and bring that personal information forward we would not have this creep in custody today.”

Shane Stanger, if found guilty, could spend the rest of his life in prison.

Sheriff Schmaling requests that anyone who thinks they may have been drugged by Shane Stanger, can call Investigator Sparks at 262-636-3175 or Investigator Luell at 262-886-8443. People can also call the dispatch number, 262-886-2300.
