Wisconsin’s 20th Senate District Needs Dan Feyen [COLUMN]

-

This is a column by state Rep. Rick Gundrum.

On August 13th, the votes of the 20th State Senate District will determine who they want to represent them in Madison. I can think of no one better to represent the district than State Senator Dan Feyen. Feyen was first elected to the State Senate in 2016 and has developed a strong, conservative record.

Feyen has consistently voted for tax relief to ensure that Wisconsinites keep more of what they earn. He understands that many families have suffered from rising inflation in recent years, which is why he most recently supported a $2.1 billion tax cut package that included a middle-class tax cut, a retirement income tax exclusion, an expansion of the married couple credit, and an expansion of the child and dependent tax credit.

This tax cut package was designed to lead our state toward greater prosperity and I have no doubt that Dan Feyen will continue to support tax reductions in the future. Feyen also knows that a strong economy requires common sense investments in our workforce and welfare reform.

During this past session, he authored a workforce development package that protected taxpayers from fraud in our unemployment insurance system and evaluated the effectiveness of our workforce development programs. He also authored a bill to limit how long people can stay on unemployment benefits so that they can move more quickly back into the workforce. That’s because Dan Feyen understands that welfare should be a trampoline, not a hammock. If re-elected, he will continue to work on welfare reform and make sure Wisconsin has a strong workforce.

Election integrity continues to be a priority for many Wisconsinites. There is nothing more critical in this state than protecting our election process. Fortunately, Dan Feyen is a major ally on election integrity legislation. He has supported bills that I’ve authored to ban ballot harvesting, as well as voting for legislation to create a constitutional amendment to ban outside funding of election administration like “Zuckerbucks.” This constitutional amendment became law following the referendums in April thanks to the efforts of Republican legislators like myself and Dan Feyen.

Dan Feyen has also been an advocate for law enforcement. At a time when the left wants to slash police budgets and make our communities more dangerous, Feyen has been a steadfast supporter of law enforcement. He has supported initiatives that provide funding for local police while also holding criminals accountable. No society will succeed if there are not police officers to keep the peace and criminals aren’t facing consequences. Feyen will make sure our police officers receive the support they deserve.

When Republican primary voters go to the ballot box on August 13th, they should vote for a conservative legislator who has proven to be effective in getting things done in Madison. That’s why I have endorsed State Senator Dan Feyen in his re-election bid. I hope my fellow Republicans in the 20th Senate District vote for him on Tuesday.
