Gwen Moore won’t come to work because of COVID even though she’s already had COVID.
U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore doesn’t want to show up to vote in person because of COVID, but it doesn’t make much sense because… she’s already had COVID. Bizarrely, she showed up for two votes right after having COVID – impeachment and Nancy Pelosi to remain House speaker – but doesn’t want to come to work for the rest.
On Jan. 14, 2021, Moore sent a letter to Cheryl L. Johnson, Clerk of the U.S. House of Representatives declaring that a proxy would be casting her votes in Congress.
“Pursuant to House Resolution 8, I write to notify you of the designation of a proxy to cast my vote,” she wrote. “I am unable to physically attend proceedings in the House Chamber due to the ongoing public health emergency and hereby grant the authority to cast my vote by proxy to the Honorable Don Beyer (VA), who has agreed to serve as my proxy.”
But how does that make sense when Gwen Moore has already had, and recovered from, COVID? She was cleared to return to work. Moore revealed on Twitter that she tested positive for COVID on Dec. 28. “I am following guidance from my doctor and am isolating from others,” she wrote. “I am thankful to be feeling well. And I do not foresee this disrupting my work for Wisconsin’s Fourth [Congressional District],” she tweeted. By Dec. 30, WISN-TV was reporting, “Moore said she’s feeling great and ready to go, and she expects to be back in Washington when Congress reconvenes next week.” Moore had “relatively mild” symptoms, the television station reported.

Moore’s letter comes as a new Congress is about to start. On May 26, 2020, Moore sent a similar letter, indicating that she was having Beyer vote as her proxy then too. According to the MacIver Institute, Moore was one of only 14 members of Congress to vote by proxy. Beyer cast Moore’s votes from May onward.
Moore did make two big exceptions. She flew to Washington D.C. to cast an in-person vote for Nancy Pelosi as House Speaker. In other words, she went to D.C. just six days after her COVID diagnosis.
Politico reporter Olivia Beavers wrote, “@RepGwenMoore told me outside House floor that she hasn’t received a negative Covid test after she announced last week she had tested positive, but says she has followed CDC guidelines to quarantine for 2 weeks + she has listened to advice of her doc who said she could come today.”
She was back voting in person to impeach Trump, too. “While people died, he watched with glee,” she raged from the House floor.

But now she wants a proxy to do the rest of the work for her again.
Got that?
So she’s willing to go in person to vote mere days after telling the world she had COVID.
But now that she’s had COVID and recovered from it, she’s unwilling to go in person to vote and represent her constituents?
We don’t get that Moorian logic, do you?
