Two appointees of Democratic Gov. Tony Evers are on the ballot today (April 1, 2025) seeking Waukesha County judgeships. They are Bridget Schoenborn and Fred Strampe.
They are running against conservative prosecutors David Maas and Zach Wittchow. Schoenborn and Strampe are also listed as preferred candidates by the Democrat Party. WisRed has endorsed Wittchow and co-endorsed Maas and Schoenborn.
The major law enforcement associations – the Waukesha Police Chiefs Association, the Waukesha County Deputy Sheriff’s Association, and the Milwaukee Police Association – have also all endorsed Zach Wittchow and David Maas for judge.

State Supreme Court candidate Brad Schimel endorsed Maas and Wittchow. Wittchow and Strampe are running for Schimel’s old seat on the Waukesha Co. bench.
We did a deep dive on the Schoenborn-Maas race. You can read that article here.
David Maas
David Maas: He works as a prosecutor for Republican DA Eric Toney. He was endorsed by Brad Schimel, Toney, former DA Sue Opper and the top law enforcement associations. He previously worked as a Milwaukee prosecutor and in the state Department of Justice for Attorney Generals Schimel, Van Hollen, and Kaul, leaving Kaul’s office to work for Toney, his Republican opponent.

Zach Wittchow
Zach Wittchow: He works as a prosecutor in the Waukesha County DA’s office and has the endorsement of Schimel, DA Lesli Boese, Sheriff Eric Severson, the top law enforcement associations and more. He was a prosecutor in the Christmas parade trial that resulted in the conviction of Darrell Brooks.

Bridget Schoenborn
Bridget Schoenborn: She was a federal prosecutor for many years. She was appointed judge by Evers last May. She touted radical leftist judge Lynn Adelman as someone she admired in the application, and served on two DEI committees, but she has earned the support of some conservatives, especially Judge Jennifer Dorow, and she says she is conservative.

Fred Strampe
Fred Strampe: Strampe was appointed by Evers to the Waukesha bench and then was defeated by former state GOP state Rep. Cody Horlacher of Mukwonago. He is an attorney.
