The Capitol Riots: A View Through The Eyes of a Gen Z

The author is a 16-year-old Hartford Union High School student.

“Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide.”

These are the words of Founding Father President John Adams, said in 1814. As much as progressives will try to claim how “outdated” the policies of the past are, this one has been proven to stand the test of time. Over 200 years later, America is slowly falling to her knees. Those who burn the flag and disown their very own country are still scrounging its resources, for example the very ability to burn the American flag without any sort of punishment. Police officers risk their lives and now their families’ lives as well to protect the very people who want them dead. It is considered more courageous to want to be called a different pronoun or come out as LGBTQ than it is to fight for your country. Socialistic countries are being idolized by the same people who want to swing open the borders, letting in escapees from those same countries. Masses gather in the streets, destroying their own communities, and half of them don’t even know what they’re fighting for. To our Founding Fathers looking down on this disgrace, I apologize for what they are doing to your beautiful country.

The disgusting attack that happened on January 6th was the day I, and I believe many other proud Americans, began to lose hope for our country. Based on other events that have happened within the last year, I will not make a judgment call on who did what. Too many times has Antifa been a wolf in sheep’s clothing, and it’s easy enough to buy a MAGA hat. However, I’m not oblivious to the fact that the majority of that crowd were radical Trump supporters. It sickens me to watch those evil people beat on cops (the very ones who they were supposed to support) and destroy one of the most sacred buildings in the building of America. It sickens me that I, a conservative who believes in law and order, am now represented by those evil people (and I now wonder if the average liberal felt as I do now during the Black Lives Matter protests). It was easy to blame progressives for the slow yet steady decline of America. Because in the end, we (conservatives) trusted ourselves to fix whatever damage they had done. The progressives knew it too. But now, watching those videos and seeing people steal government property as jubilantly as they were, my heart sank because it was then that I began to lose faith in fixing what Black Lives Matter has broken. As Gandhi said, “An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.”

The next four years will quite possibly be the worst this country has ever seen. Including the Great Depression. With Joe Biden, the one who has hurt the Black community more than any other politician, being the puppet of the most liberal senator in the history of the United States, Kamala Harris. Not to mention they now have the House of Representatives and the Senate; we can expect nothing less than the packing of the Supreme Court, the playing of favorites when it comes to free speech, and the total detonation of the Electoral College. Biden will hand over an overwhelming amount of power to China because he is too weak to handle it on his own. However, I think that this time will be needed. A necessary evil. When progressives realize that “free” isn’t actually “free” and how corrupt and vile the intentions of the left are, it will cause a push back like no other. My generation (Gen Z) will NOT like that they have to leave their safe spaces and work for eight hours a day like a productive citizen, only to have that money to be snatched away from them to pay for the rehabilitation of some basement-dwelling meth addict. The American public will soon learn the true ways of the heinous left, and rebel against it. Slowly they are. Trump got more Black and Hispanic votes in the 2020 election than any Republican candidate in history. It’s just going to take harder work from the sensible right to educate the moderate left. United we stand, divided we fall.
