Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Ignores Brad Schimel’s Supreme Court Announcement Event

-

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel editor Greg Borowski is refusing to explain why the state’s largest newspaper ignored conservative Brad Schimel’s announcement speech for state Supreme Court.

Schimel, a Waukesha County circuit judge and former Wisconsin Attorney General, announced his campaign to a large crowd in Waukesha on Thursday. He is running against liberal Ann Walsh Bradley for state Supreme Court. Instead, the Journal Sentinel’s website was filled with stories like, “Are Taylor Swift and Simone Biles friends? Here’s their history.”

WRN could not find any coverage of the event on the Journal Sentinel’s website Friday or  Saturday.

The announcement speech was covered by the Waukesha Freeman and Milwaukee television stations, as well as Wisconsin Right Now and other members of the news media. Conspicuously absent: The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, which blacked Schimel’s announcement speech, and criticism of Walsh Bradley, out of its newspaper.

In contrast, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel ran a big story when liberal Rebecca Dallet announced her bid for a court seat in 2017.

The Journal Sentinel did report that Schimel would be announcing a run several days before the event, citing WRN, which first broke the story. However, the JS did not cover his actual announcement event or speech, where he criticized Walsh Bradley for her record on COVID, victims’ rights and for contributing to the partisanship and dysfunction on the state Supreme Court.

It’s obviously newsworthy.

WRN co-editor Jim Piwowarczyk wrote Borowski on Dec. 1: “Mr. Borowski, We can not find any JS coverage of former AG Brad Schimel’s state Supreme Court run announcement event last night. There was plenty of advanced notice and JS reported on the anticipated announcement on Monday. Why did JS decide not to report on the actual announcement? We were there, along with other members of the Milwaukee media.”

Borowski ignored the email.
