In 1963 Kewascum annexed a non-contiguous piece of land in the town of Auburn in the county of Fond du Lac. Kewaskum first annexed land in 1959 and again for twenty of the next forty-six years. The first settlers in the area were the Barnes family, who arrived in 1844 and began farming near the future village. In the early 19th century, the Kewaskum area was home to the Potawatomi Native Americans, who ceded land to the U.S. federal government in 1833 under the Treaty of Chicago, which required the Potawatomi Native Americans to leave Wisconsin by 1838.    Show Source Texts

Kewaskum was the leader of a group of Potawatomi Native Americans who lived in Washington County in the 1840s. Much of the information about Cape Kewaskum came from settlers and surveyors from the lakes of Pike, Koshkonog, and Cedar Creek, which are located at least 20 miles south of the village that bears his name. No one knows why Jesse Myers and William Barnes decided to name the village they founded after Chief Kewaskum. As someone who had no legal right to remain on their land, the Kevascum group apparently traveled and camped in all that would come to be known as Washington, Dodge, and Jefferson counties. In 1919, Adolf J. Rosenheimer founded the Kewaskum Aluminum Company in Kewaskum to manufacture aluminum cookware. With a 2020 population of 4,414, it is the 158th largest city in Wisconsin and the 5,140th largest city in the United States.
