New Republican state Rep. Paul Melotik is being praised for his hard work and dedication after his strong victory to replace Dan Knodl, who was elected to the state Senate.

The victory is important because it keeps Republicans only two seats from obtaining the super majority needed to override Gov. Tony Evers’ vetoes. Republicans already have a super majority in the state Senate.

Melotik, a retired engineer, defeated the Democrat 53.69% to 46.31%. “Congratulations to Republican Paul Melotik who won Tuesday’s special election, another victory for GOP and ppl of Wisconsin,” GOP Chair Brian Schimming tweeted.

Evers has continued to exercise veto authority contrary to the interest of taxpayers, recently striking numbers and a hyphen to create likely property tax increases for the next 402 years.

State Senator Dan Knodl (R-Germantown) issued the following statement on the 24th Assembly District special election winner.

“I would like to congratulate my friend and new colleague Paul Melotik on his victory in the 24th Assembly District,” he said. “It just goes to show what hard work and dedication can accomplish. I am positive Paul will do a great job representing my former district and I look forwarding to working with him to improve our communities.”

Melotik defeated Democrat Bob Tatterson in the north shore district.
