Stolen Car Plows Into Waukesha Apartment Building

Waukesha apartment crash

Three males who don’t live in the City of Waukesha plowed a car stolen in Chicago, Illinois, into a Waukesha apartment complex after leading police on a chase, according to Waukesha police.

On Sunday, Jan. 15, 2023, at approximately 1:11 a.m., an officer initiated a traffic stop on E. Moreland Blvd near Frame Park, a police press release, issued by Capt. Dan Baumann, says.

“The vehicle did not immediately pull over and subsequently accelerated attempted to elude the officer. The vehicle drove recklessly through the neighborhoods north of E. Moreland Blvd and South of Manhattan Dr. The vehicle came back onto Moreland Blvd and attempted to navigate a turn on White Rock Ave, but the operator of the vehicle lost control and crashed the vehicle into the side of the Spring City Crossing apartment complex.”

According to the release, the vehicle “started on fire and officers and deputies used fire extinguishers to attempt to put the fire out. Officers rescued the suspects from the vehicle while it was on fire. The City of Waukesha Fire Department responded quickly to tend to the injured suspects, vehicle fire and the building damage.”

Officers “arrested three male suspects who do not reside in the City of Waukesha. The vehicle was stolen out of Chicago IL. All three suspects were taken to a local hospital and are currently under the care of medical staff. Until they are medically cleared, we will not be releasing the names or booking photos. All three are males, age 18, 21, and 30,” Waukesha police stated.

“The apartment building was initially evacuated due to smoke inside the building. The fire was extinguished, and smoke removed from the building. Building damage caused by the vehicle was moderate but non-structural and the occupants of the building were allowed to re-occupy,” police wrote.

It is estimated that $20,000 in property damage was incurred, police wrote. None of the occupants from the apartment building were injured or displaced as the vehicle had struck the parking garage/storage area, the news release said.

“One officer was injured during this incident with a laceration to his arm when they were removing the suspects from the burning vehicle. No citizens were injured during this incident. We are grateful for the assistance of the Waukesha Sheriff’s Department and the Waukesha Fire Department,” police wrote.
