Waukesha Carjacking at Walmart Leads to Wild Police Pursuit on Bluemound

A Waukesha carjacking at a Walmart store parking lot and an attempted carjacking near the bypass at gunpoint led to a wild police pursuit along Bluemound Road, according to police scanner audio obtained by Wisconsin Right Now and a post by the wife of a victim.

A pump-action shotgun was used in the carjacking.

The suspects reached at least 100 miles per hour on Bluemound before their vehicle stalled, according to the scanner audio. The suspects were driving in the wrong lanes for traffic and blew a red light at another point. Although the scanner traffic initially indicated there were three suspects, two were taken into custody and refused medical attention. One of the original suspects had fled.

An officer said his squad was hit “head-on,” but he did not need medical attention.

“Calls from the Walmart for a stolen vehicle,” a dispatcher said of the second incident. The color of the vehicle matched the suspect vehicle in the earlier attempted carjacking near the bypass. The carjacking occurred at the Walmart parking lot on West Avenue in the City of Waukesha. The suspects took off with a white Acura, a rental vehicle.

“My husband had a gun pointed at him by these dumb ass at the Walmart when they car jacked the car. I’m so thankful for Waukesha Police for getting them off the streets,” a woman wrote on X.

The first call came in for the attempted carjacking at the bypass.

“Attempted carjacking, three subjects involved. One with a shotgun,” an officer said on the scanner on November 19, 2023. “The person was at a red light when the person hit them from behind?” another officer said. “Pretty much,” a dispatcher said.

Officers said the attempted carjacking occurred “west of the bypass,” and involved a white Buick Enclave with no front plates as the suspect vehicle. It was called an attempted or armed carjacking.

Dispatchers said there were three suspects: “a male white heavyset, the other Hispanic. The third was driving.” Police said the suspects tried to force a person out of the vehicle and smash the window. Two of the suspects were Hispanic, an officer clarified. No further description was released.

According to Waukesha Police, both males do not reside in Waukesha.

Scanner audio also captured officers communicating during the pursuit.

“Traffic is very light; he is in the number one lane on Bluemound,” an officer said. “Westbound Bluemound going over the bridge right now. Approaching the intersection over the bridge; speeds about 88. We are still westbound; he slowed down to 50.”

They put out stop sticks but the suspect vehicle missed them while traveling 74 miles per hour westbound on Bluemound approaching Pewaukee Road. The suspect then was going 80 miles per hour south on Pewaukee.

“He is crossing into oncoming traffic. He almost lost control and is approaching Northview,” an officer said.

The officers were blocking the suspect so he “can’t get out. He is trying to go northbound, but he is stalled now.”

One officer had a hand injury, according to the scanner reports.

“We have guns pointed southbound right now,” an officer said. “We are going to need traffic control on Pewaukee. We’re going to need to divert all traffic.”

Waukesha Alerts, a site that monitors scanner traffic, tweeted, “CARJACKING ATTEMPT NEAR THE BYPASS AND A SUCCESSFUL CARJACKING AT WALMART. POLICE IN HIGH SPEED PURSUIT, TWO SUSPECTS IN CUSTODY AT NORTHVIEW AND PEWAUKEE. AT LEAST ONE OFFICER INJURED.”

Waukesha Alerts also wrote, “Multiple City of Waukesha Police squads were damaged or totaled as a result of the pursuit and at least one Waukesha County Sheriff squad was totaled.” Police have not confirmed that information.

Waukesha Police issued the following statement,

“On November 19, 2023 at approximately 8:14 pm, two male suspects were arrested for< stealing a vehicle that was occupied. The suspects used a shotgun and physical force to steal the vehicle. Officers located the stolen vehicle within minutes and began to pursue the vehicle as it fled the crime scene.

The pursuit lasted approximately 13 minutes and traveled throughout the City of Waukesha. Eventually, the suspects pulled onto a dead-end road off of Pewaukee Rd and Northview Rd. The suspect vehicle struck three City of Waukesha Police cars and one Waukesha Sheriff’s Deputies squad car. The two male suspects were immediately arrested. The shotgun was located inside the stolen vehicle.

Both males do not live in Waukesha.

This investigation is still on-going. We are working with investigators from other agencies as we believe these suspects were involved in other crimes. The team of investigators have been working through the night and are continuing to work today. We want to ensure that all crime victims have a voice. Furthermore, if there was anyone else that assisted these suspects, we will find you and arrest you.

There will be several charges that will be recommended to the District Attorney’s office for review, potentially – OWI causing injury, Recklessly Endangering Safety, Armed Robbery.

Suspects identity will be released at a later date. We believe they will go through an initial hearing in the next day or two.”
